IPO Subscription Status

Ans. The subscription rate (or subscription multiple) tells you how many times the total bids received exceed the total shares available. A rate of 10× means investors applied for 10 times the number of shares on offer. A rate above 1× means the IPO is oversubscribed — more people want shares than there are shares available.

Ans. QIB (Qualified Institutional Buyers) are large institutions like mutual funds, insurance companies and foreign institutions. Retail investors are individuals applying for up to ₹2 lakhs worth of shares. NII (Non-Institutional Investors) covers everyone else — including HNIs (applying over ₹10 lakhs) and sNII (₹2L–₹10L). SEBI allocates a fixed percentage of each IPO to each category.

Ans. For retail investors in an oversubscribed IPO, SEBI mandates a computerised lottery system. Every applicant who applied for the minimum lot gets an equal chance — so applying for more lots doesn't increase your probability beyond 1 application. For QIB and NII, allotment is proportional.

Ans. Open a free Rupeezy demat and trading account, then go to the IPO section in the app. Select the IPO you want, enter the number of lots, authorise payment via UPI, and you're done. The amount is blocked in your bank account (ASBA) and only deducted if you're allotted shares.
