About Hero Motors IPO: Company Overview
Hero Motors Limited, incorporated in April 1998, is an automotive technology company that develops and manufactures engineered powertrain solutions for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Its products cater to a broad range of applications, including two-wheelers, premium automotive vehicles, e-bikes, off-road vehicles, electric and hybrid cars, heavy-duty vehicles and emerging eVTOL applications. The company serves customers across India, the United States, Europe and the ASEAN region.
The company provides both system-level and component-level capabilities, covering product design, prototyping, validation, development and manufacturing. Its technology portfolio includes continuously variable transmissions (CVTs), electric vehicle transmissions, electric motors, integrated drive units and gear sets. Hero Motors has also built a significant position in the global e-bike powertrain market, with capabilities to manufacture and export CVT hubs and integrated electric powertrain products for e-bike applications.
Hero Motors operates through two primary business segments: Powertrain Solutions and Alloys and Metallics. Powertrain Solutions includes Gears and Transmissions, which serves automotive and mobility applications, and Bike Powertrain, which focuses on micro-mobility and e-bike manufacturers. The Alloys and Metallics segment manufactures sheet metal and tubular assemblies and components mainly for automotive OEMs. The company's customer base includes global names such as BMW, Ducati, enviolo, Formula Motorsport, Hummingbird EV and HWA, supported by its in-house engineering capabilities and technology partnerships.
Strengths & Risks of Hero Motors IPO
Strong Engineering and R&D Capabilities: Hero Motors has in-house design, engineering and product development capabilities covering various stages from prototyping and validation to final delivery. This provides the company with greater control over the development of technologically complex powertrain products.
Established Global Customer Relationships: The company has developed relationships with several international automotive and mobility players. Such customer associations can support recurring business opportunities and help strengthen its position in global supply chains.
Exposure to Multiple Mobility Segments: Hero Motors serves two-wheelers, e-bikes, performance vehicles, off-road applications, electric and hybrid cars, heavy-duty vehicles and other emerging mobility segments. This diversified application base can reduce dependence on a single end market.
Position in E-Bike Powertrains: The company has an established presence in the global e-bike powertrain market and manufactures products such as CVT hubs and integrated electric powertrain solutions. This provides exposure to the expanding micro-mobility ecosystem.
Improving Profitability: The company's PAT increased from Rs. 32.80 crore in FY2025 to Rs. 41.17 crore in FY2026, while EBITDA increased from Rs. 114.00 crore to Rs. 147.78 crore. The improvement indicates positive movement in earnings performance.
High IPO Valuation: At the upper price band of Rs. 84, the post-issue P/E is stated at approximately 92.31x. Such a valuation places significant expectations on future earnings growth, and any slowdown in profitability could affect investor returns.
High Dependence on Automotive Industry: A substantial part of Hero Motors' business is connected to automotive OEMs and mobility applications. Changes in vehicle demand, production volumes, industry cycles or customer purchasing patterns could therefore affect its financial performance.
Borrowing Levels: The company reported total borrowings of Rs. 400.79 crore as of March 31, 2026, with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.83. Interest costs and repayment requirements may place pressure on cash flows if operating conditions weaken.
Relatively Moderate Return Ratios: The company reported ROE of 8.56% and RoNW of 8.53% for FY2026. These returns indicate that the company will need to improve profitability and capital efficiency to justify a higher valuation over the long term.
Competitive Automotive Technology Market: The powertrain and automotive components industry is highly competitive and continuously evolving. Maintaining technological relevance, securing new programs and retaining existing customers will require continued investment in engineering, product development and manufacturing capabilities.
