National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE), incorporated in November 1992, is India’s largest stock exchange and a leading global multi-asset exchange platform. The company operates an integrated capital-market ecosystem covering trading, clearing, settlement, listing, market data, index services and other market-related functions across equities, derivatives, currencies, commodities, debt securities and mutual funds.
As of March 31, 2026, NSE had more than 253 million registered investor accounts and 129 million unique investors, with 1,325 trading members and 2,978 listed companies on its platform. During Fiscal 2026, securities worth more than Rs. 20.3 trillion were mobilized through its platform. NSE’s technology infrastructure is designed to support high trading volumes, real-time market information, risk management, surveillance and regulatory requirements, helping it maintain a strong position in India’s capital-market ecosystem.
The company has also built a broad network across investors, listed companies and market intermediaries. Its operations are supported by technology, market infrastructure and regulatory capabilities, while its reach extends across more than 99% of Indian postal codes. As of March 31, 2026, NSE had 1,974 full-time employees, with another 907 employees working across its subsidiaries.
Market Leadership: NSE holds a leading position in India across major trading segments and has established itself as one of the country’s most important financial-market institutions.
Diversified Multi-Asset Platform: The exchange supports several asset classes, including equities, derivatives, currencies, commodities, debt securities and mutual funds, reducing dependence on a single market segment.
Integrated Business Ecosystem: Its operations span trading, clearing, settlement, listing, market data and index services, creating an interconnected platform for market participants.
Strong Technology Infrastructure: NSE operates a scalable technology platform capable of handling high trading volumes while supporting real-time data, surveillance, risk management and regulatory requirements.
Strong Financial Profile: The company reported Rs. 18,713.37 crore of total income and Rs. 10,302.06 crore of PAT in FY2026. It also had zero total borrowings, indicating a debt-free balance sheet based on the provided financial information.
Entire Issue is OFS: The IPO consists entirely of an Offer for Sale. NSE will not receive any funds from the issue, and the proceeds will instead be received by the selling shareholders.
Dependence on Capital-Market Activity: A significant part of NSE’s business is linked to trading and market activity. Lower trading volumes, reduced volatility or weaker participation can affect transaction-linked revenue.
Regulatory Environment: As a major market infrastructure institution, NSE operates under extensive regulatory oversight. Changes in regulations, compliance requirements or market structures could affect its operations and profitability.
Recent Financial Decline: NSE’s total income declined from Rs. 19,176.83 crore in FY2025 to Rs. 18,713.37 crore in FY2026, while PAT declined from Rs. 12,187.69 crore to Rs. 10,302.06 crore over the same period.
Technology and Cybersecurity Risks: The exchange depends heavily on its technology infrastructure. System disruptions, cyber incidents, technical failures or security breaches could adversely affect operations and market confidence.
