In India, bank holidays are a part of the rich cultural and religious diversity of the country. They mark important national milestones, festival celebrations, and regional traditions during which banks, government offices, and most other businesses remain closed. Nationwide holidays bring the entire country together to celebrate, but regional holidays bring out the distinctiveness of individual states. Keeping track of these holidays in 2026 will help keep you organized while planning a family trip, setting important tasks on the calendar, or just getting a much-needed break.

In India, holidays are classified as Gazetted and Restricted:

  • Gazetted Holidays are compulsorily observed throughout the country or in certain states. Banks, government offices, and most other organisations are closed on these days, such as Republic Day or Independence Day.

  • Restricted Holidays are optional and employees may opt for it on personal or religious grounds. Examples include Basant Panchami or Mahavir Jayanti, and establishments remain open on these days.

Note: Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month is Bank Holiday
