E Shram is an initiative the Government of India started to support workers in the unorganized sectors. The government has also launched the e Shram portal to manage and collect the database of various government schemes. This portal will help the users know their e Shram card check balance and other benefits offered by the government.

What is an e-Shram Card?

Shramik card or the e Shram card is a program through which a person working in an unorganised sector can apply. With the help of the e Shram card, the labourers and employees of the unorganised sector can avail of various benefits and support through schemes like pension after 60 years, financial aid, death insurance, etc. e Shram card was started to provide access to all the new government schemes to the unorganised workers through the e Shram platform.

The e Shram card was launched by the Ministry of Labor and Employment in August 2021 under the supervision of the Government of India.  As per this scheme, the eligible users get a monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 per month along with certain insurance benefits like death insurance of Rs. 2 lakh, and for partial handicap, they get a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh. The age limit for applying for this particular scheme is 16 to 59 years.

What do you mean by unorganised sector? The unorganised sector companies are the firms that are engaged in selling goods and services, with less number of employees, generally less than 10. The employees won't be covered with the benefits that fall under the ESIC and EPFO schemes. So any person working in this category of companies will be termed as an Unorganised Worker.

Benefits of e-Shram Card

  1. A monthly pension of Rs.3,000 will be provided after reaching the age of 60.

  2. In case of death, the worker’s family will receive an insurance payout of Rs.2,00,000, and if the worker suffers a partial disability, financial assistance of Rs.1,00,000 will be given.

  3. If a worker with an e Shram card passes away due to an accident, all the benefits will be transferred to the spouse.

  4. Beneficiaries will receive a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN), which is valid nationwide.

  5. This amount will be transferred directly to the applicant’s Bank account.

Eligibility Criteria for e Shram Card

  1. Any worker employed in the unorganised sector is eligible for the e Shram Card.

  2. Workers should not be registered as income taxpayers.

  3. A valid mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card is required to be eligible.

  4. The worker must be between 16 and 59 years of age to apply for the e Shram Card.

How to Register for e Shram Card Online?

The e Shram card applications must be submitted via the Common Service Centre (CSC) or the e Shram portal. Eligible individuals can go to their nearby CSC centre and apply for an e Shram card.   1. Visit the e Shram Portal: Go to the self-registration page of the e Shram portal.

  2. Enter Mobile Number: Input your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, captcha code, and click on 'Send OTP.'

  3. Verify Aadhaar: Enter your Aadhaar number, agree to the terms and conditions, and input the OTP received on your mobile. Then, click 'Validate.'

  4. Confirm Details: Review and confirm the details that appear on the screen.

  5. Fill in Required Information: Enter details such as your address, educational qualifications, etc.

  6. Select Work Information: Choose your skill set, nature of business, and type of work.

  7. Add Bank Details: Input your bank information and complete the self-declaration.

  8. Preview and Submit: Review all the entered information by clicking 'Preview,' then click 'Submit.'

  9. OTP Verification: You will receive another OTP on your mobile number. Enter it and click 'Verify.'

  10. Download e Shram Card: Once generated, the e Shram card will be displayed on the screen, and you can download it by clicking the 'Download' option.

  5. After successful verification, you'll be redirected to your e Shram card dashboard.

  6. Navigate to the “My Account” section from the dashboard.
