What is MTF?

Margin Trading Facility (MTF) allows you to buy eligible stocks by paying only a portion of the total trade value upfront, while the remaining amount is funded by the broker.

With MTF, you can take larger positions without committing the entire investment amount upfront.

MTF Meaning

MTF commonly stands for Margin Trading Facility. As mentioned above, It lets you buy eligible shares by paying a margin upfront, while the broker funds the balance.

For example, if you want to buy stocks worth ₹1,00,000 and the required margin is ₹20,000, you can take the position by paying ₹20,000 upfront, subject to the applicable MTF terms and requirements.

How Does MTF Work?

MTF works by combining your upfront margin with funds provided by the broker.

  • 1

    Choose a stock

Select an eligible stock and check the applicable MTF margin requirement.
  • 2

    Pay the margin

Pay the applicable upfront margin required to take the position.
  • 3

    Get funding & hold

The broker funds the eligible balance, subject to applicable terms. Funding charges may apply.
  • 4

    Sell & settle

Sell your shares to close the position. Sale proceeds settle the funded amount and applicable charges.
